I first heard about this pillowcase project on Sewing With Nancy a couple of years ago. . .and have enjoyed following the movement ever since. . .I have been inspired and proud to be a part of it. . .Most of all, I love the smiles that break out on recipients faces. . .It makes every hour sewing worthwhile. . .

The pillowcases are quick and easy to make. . .Mixing and matching the fabrics is part of the fun. . .Make each pillowcase the same or no two alike. . .Use your creative sewing skills. . .maybe one of your favorite patchwork patterns for the band. . .You are only limited by your imagination.

Choose your own charity for the donation. . .or you may participate through the numerous stores sponsoring their own choice of charities. . .The only thing asked of you is that you record your pillowcases on the One Million Pillowcase Challenge website. . .

Make a Pillowcase. Make a Difference.
Here's how you can help:
1. Find a participating shop (or pick a charity of your own)

Make-Do Apron from Mary Janes Farm

It's made from a man's shirt!

"In my mother’s day, women used to take the collar off a frayed shirt, turn it around, and stitch it back on. When that side wore out, they often used the fabric to make something else—a quilt, or in this case, an apron. Patterned fabrics from one shirt can be used to edge an apron cut from another. It’s easy to make attractive complementary combinations to create a vintage-style apron like the one above."

I've seen many apron patterns utilizing men's shirts
in the last few months, but I vote Mary Jane's the best.
You'll find instruction at:

I have more good news, too!
My friend Heide at Apron History
will be sharing one of her apron patterns
each month, and I'll be linking up with her
so that you don't miss a single one of them!

I think it will be great fun and who couldn't use
a new apron each month for their kitchen?
Check out her January pick HERE

Watch for the February Apron link at Our Old Country Store soon!

Til then you could grab a man's shirt (but not off his back, Ladies)
and get stitching on Mary Jane's Make-Do Apron.
I think it's a winner!

Large Make-do Sew Prim For Sale

'Sew Prim'
That's how the grungy tag labels this extra large
pincushion. . . although it wouldn't have to be used for pins. . . .
This odd looking bird would make a statement wherever
it sits. . . .For yourself or as a gift to someone special.

I did not create the adorable Sew Prim. . . .
but purchased it in Virginia. . . .
Definitely one of a kind--and charming.

He stands approximately 18" tall
and approximately 8" across the main body.
It's a little hard to give him up. . . .but, I must.
My sewing room is over-following.
